- U.S. Coast Guard Commander Michael Persun
U.S. Coast Guard Commander Michael Persun will be the guest speaker for the Rotary Club of Ocean City - Upper Township dinner meeting on Thursday, Oct.10, 2024, at 5:30 pm at the Somers Point Diner, 8 MacArthur Blvd, Somers Point.
Commander Michael Persun is the Training Officer of Training Center Cape May, the birthplace and hometown of our enlisted workforce. He is responsible for overseeing the U.S. Coast Guard’s only boot camp and accession of more than 4,500 recruits each year.
CDR Persun
CDR Persun reported to Cape May in July 2024 after serving as the Response Department Head for Sector New York in Staten Island. In that capacity, he was responsible for the execution of Search and Rescue, Emergency Response, and Safety and Security operations throughout the Ports of New York, Newark, and Albany. Through extensive collaboration with state and local entities, he enabled the safe movement of $300 billion in commerce each year.
CDR Persun has past assignments at Coast Guard Cutter Diligence in Wilmington, NC, Sector St. Petersburg, FL, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT.
 
CDR Persun graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2009 with a degree in marine and environmental science. He has also earned a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Liberty University.
 
He is married to the nee Laura Kettl and they have three amazing children: Molly (8), Emma (6), and Connor (2).

  • Oct. 16 – Wednesday, 12 noon, “Combined Meeting” with the Somers Point Rotary Club and our OCUT Rotary Club for the annual visit of Steven R. Neuner, 2024-25 Governor for District 7505 with 70-plus Rotary Clubs in Central & Southern New Jersey.  The Oct. 16th joint Rotary meeting will be at Josie Kelly's Public House, 908 Shore Rd, Somers Point.
  • Oct. 24th – Program: Miss New Jersey Elizabeth Mendel. Elizabeth, a 22-year-old resident of Cape May Court House, NJ, has been involved with the Miss America Opportunity since the age of 16. She advocates for Eating Disorder Awareness through her service initiative, “Image is Everywhere.”
    • Rotary meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month, 5:30 pm, at the Somers Point Diner, 8 MacArthur Blvd, Somers Point.
Guests, prospective members, and the general public are always welcome to attend Rotary meetings.
